Workshop: Drawing Yantras

May 2 8:30am-7:30pm

Price: $75 plus accommodations when booked with a Yoga Retreat, or $150 as a Day Retreat

Join Vedic Astrologer and Artist, Lakshman (John Fontaine) for this workshop on the sacred art of drawing Yantras!

“Yantras are visual tools that serve either as centering devices or as symbolic compositions of the energy pattern of a deity as seen by Tantric seers in their visions.” – Harish Johari

The process of drawing a yantra is a practice in itself. One can visualize an energy or support that one wants to bring more strongly into their life. Drawing the yantra while also doing a mantra that is associated with the deity of the yantra, can infuse the yantra with the energy that both the yantra and the mantra represent. I have often felt this strongly at the completion of the drawing. It seems to be a kind of blessing for doing the yantra. And the yantra can continue to have a positive effect, indefinitely, if it is used.

Pictures of the yantras of the nine planets and of Ganesh, Laxmi, Saraswati, Durga, Kali, and the Ten Wisdom Goddesses (MahaVidyas) will be available for you to view so you can choose your favorite yantra to draw.

In our class, we will go step by step through the construction (or drawing) of a yantra, and you will be able to apply the knowledge from this workshop to creating more yantras on your own as you please.  In the afternoon, you will be coloring your yantra with paint, colored pencils, markers, etc.  Feel free to bring your favorite coloring medium with you, but there will also be plenty of supplies available.

Materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own paints, watercolors, etc if they want to ensure they have the same materials to finish their yantra at home; sometimes participants are not able to finish during the workshop.

We hope you can join us for this special event!

The scenery is gorgeous with hiking all around, staff is excellent, the food is delicious, the temples are beautiful, the yoga is great and relaxing, and the cabins are clean and nice. I always feel so peaceful there and the meditation is wonderful. It’s a very spiritual place and wonderful for decompressing from city life and for getting back to your true self.
