About the Instructor

Kalika Fortin

Kalika Fortin first arrived at Shoshoni in 2005, where she joined the staff while completing her 200-hour yoga certification along with advanced asana certifications. Coming from the conservative Midwest, Kalika embraced the beauty and transformation of a new world filled with meditation, service, and devotional chanting. The peaceful energy of the morning chants and the vibrant evening kirtans revealed that bhakti yoga was her true path. She spent several years performing in Shoshoni Yoga Retreat’s resident band, Shiva’s Garden, before co-founding The Pushpams with Mira Gale and Kumara Etzel.

Now once again calling Shoshoni home, Kalika finds joy in sharing both music and yoga practice with others. Her teaching style blends gentle breath awareness with a flowing sequence of yoga postures that strengthen and stretch the body, all while maintaining a meditative focus. She has performed at various yoga festivals, including Hanuman Festival, Denver Chant Fest, and Bhavapalooza, and has shared the stage with kirtan artists such as Dave Stringer, C.C. White, Girish, David Newman, and Govindas & Radha. Her music has also been featured on New World Kirtan and Wild Women Rising.

The scenery is gorgeous with hiking all around, staff is excellent, the food is delicious, the temples are beautiful, the yoga is great and relaxing, and the cabins are clean and nice. I always feel so peaceful there and the meditation is wonderful. It’s a very spiritual place and wonderful for decompressing from city life and for getting back to your true self.
