Sacred Art Retreat
November 7-9. 2014
Relax and renew with a nourishing weekend of meditation, yoga and sacred art with teachers Faith Stone and Gayatri Devillier.
Sacred art holds a special place in the Shambhava Yoga® tradition. Our ashram is adorned with traditional art from India and Tibet as well as contemporary sacred art, much of which is created by our Director Faith Stone. The process of making art gathers our awareness in the present to experience focus, creativity and peace. By viewing sacred art, we attune to a higher energy within ourselves that is represented by the deity.
We believe that all aspects of life offer the opportunity to grow spiritually. Through meditation and yoga, we can tap into a deep well of creativity and joy within our own being. Shoshoni’s founder Sri Shambhavananda often remarks that meditation is a creative process and those who meditate can tap into a reservoir of creative energy within themselves.
Art projects for the weekend include drawing, painting and mixed media with a variety of options for both new and experienced artists. We will learn mantras to use for making art and practicing meditation.
Guided meditation sessions and hatha yoga classes are rooted in the Shambhava Yoga® tradition. Meditation programs take place in our temples that are filled with sacred art and Shakti, or spiritual energy. Participants are asked to wear nicer clothes to meditation sessions. Temple dress code: please no jeans, shorts, or sweat suits.
During free time, enjoy walking meditation and hiking through our beautiful rocky mountain grounds: pine and aspen forests, rock formations and a small pond. Explore Shoshoni’s hiking trails ranging from easy to moderate, with views of local 13,000 foot peaks and the Continental Divide.
Vegetarian meals from our organic gardens are a highlight of a Shoshoni retreat, nourishing us from the inside out.
Choose your accommodation ranging from dorm to private cabin and cottage.

Faith Stone is the author of Drawing Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, a how-to guide to traditional Tibetan style of drawing. She studied Tibetan Thangka painting at Naropa University in Boulder, CO and under the guidance of Khen Rinpoche, his brother Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal and the Drikung Skaybgon Chetsang. Faith also attended Montserrat School of visual arts in Beverly, Massachusetts and then pursued a career as a chef, edible art. She has published three cookbooks and a novel, Rudi and the Green Apple. Faith Stone is the cofounder of the Shambhava Yoga Ashrams Shoshoni Yoga Retreat, Eldorado Mountain Yoga Ashram and Konalani on the big island of Hawaii.
Faith now paints contemporary Buddhist and Hindu art while adhering to the traditional thigse proportions. She believes the real joy of painting Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and Hindu deities is the idea of creating a space for the Buddha or deity to reside. The attitude is that once the painting is finished – The Buddha or Tara or Ganesha moves in.
Faith’s paintings are held in private collections in the mainland, Hawaii, Europe and India. Faith was an award winning middle and high school art teacher in Kona, Hawaii and Boulder, Colorado. Faith is the director of Eldorado Yoga summer camp in Eldorado Springs, CO. She loves teaching art and working with kids!
Gayatri Devillier is a resident of Shoshoni Yoga Ashram and has studied sacred art with Faith Stone for nearly 10 years. Before migrating west, she lived in Chicago where she received her B.A. in Art History from DePaul University, Chicago. There, Gayatri apprenticed with artists of various media including drawing, painting, woodworking and video art. Her love of figure drawing expanded naturally into painting deities of Hinduism and Buddhism. She recently finished her first Thangka. Gayatri also leads beginning through advanced levels of yoga teacher training and Ayurveda retreats. Her sacred art is in private collections in Colorado.
