“The Kitchen Goddess” is the third vegetarian cookbook from the kitchen of Shoshoni Yoga Retreat. The recipes are all new, the favorite dishes of our chefs and guests. This book is also dedicated to the Goddess, the feminine aspect of the Divine.
Kirtan with Shiva's Garden
Shiva's Garden Kirtan (sacred chants) in Boulder, Colorado, is a revered practice on the path of Bhakti Yoga (the Yoga of Devotion). The chants use Sanskrit mantras in combination with uplifting, beautiful music to guide the practitioner toward a realization of their own Divine nature.
Chanting the many names of the Divine with love and devotion allows one to fully open their heart and experience pure grace.
There
are some artists who awaken us to our own innermost Selves. As the subtle
energy of their expression permeates our hearts, a sense of delight and
wonder begins to reveal itself from within.
Shiva's
Garden is just that type of band. Their self-produced sophomore release,
Under the Shiva Moon, displays depth and content uncommon to most bands
their age. Their blend of roots rock, folk and kirtan offers sweetness
and a cutting edge that dissolves musical boundaries and opens our hearts
in the process.
Shiva's Garden, the Boulder-based
band comes from a variety of musical backgrounds.
The band
formed in 1997 out of a collective wish to grow spiritually and shared
devotion to Sri Shambavananda. As a birthday gift to Babaji, some of
his students decided to write a song. Composed of sacred mantras, electric
guitars, African drums and three-part vocal harmonies, this offering became
the seed out of which Shiva's Garden would sprout.
The irony of Shiva's
Garden is that none of its members set out to form a band. They all had
set aside their musical goals in favor of a focused spiritual practice
and ashram life. But they say, "Wherever you go, there you are,"
and none of them could escape their musical karma. And now, the music
of Shiva's Garden has become a large part of their spiritual practice..
Those of you who love the songs of Shiva's Garden and Suryadas's album, "Songs to Protest Samsara" will be pleased to know that you can now purchase songs from both on iTunes. And it would be great PR if some of you could give the songs a good review on iTunes!
