How long has Shoshoni been a
yoga and health retreat center?
A: Shoshoni opened its doors for spiritual retreats in January 1988.
How did Shoshoni get its name?
A: It was founded as a children's summer camp in the 1930's and
called Shoshoni by the original camp owner. The name means 'shining
mountain'.
Do I have to participate in all the activities?
A: There are many activities such as hatha yoga, pranayama, chanting,
meditation, hiking, and health treatments, but you can choose which
ones you want to do. You are free to participate as you like.
I do not know yoga or how to meditate. Can I still stay at Shoshoni?
A: Shoshoni is for everyone to enjoy. Beginners are welcome.
I am retired. Is it too late for me to start learning yoga?
A: Yoga is fun to learn at any age. With the variety of classes,
instruction, and delicious food you will delight in retreats and workshops
of all kinds.
Is Shoshoni Retreat related to the Native American Shoshone tribe?
A: No. The retreat center is a spiritual community under the guidance
of Shambhavananda. Its classes in hatha yoga, meditation, and pranayama
are based on the Indian Yogic tradition. You can visit the Shoshone

What is the nearest airport?
A: The Denver International Airport is the nearest airport. It is
approximately two hours drive from the retreat. Transportation options
include renting a car from the airport, taking a commercial shuttle
to Boulder and a taxi to the retreat, or taking the public transportation
to a nearby town Nederland where a staff member will meet you.
Are you open all the time for individual retreats?
A: Shoshoni is open for private retreats all year. We also have
day
retreats (9AM to 5 PM). Although we offer programs of specific length
such as our 3-, 5-, and 7-day Ayurvedic Cleanse and Renewal, guests
may also just come to enjoy our every day Private Retreats including
hatha yoga, meditation classes, and more.
Is there a specific length of time you need to stay?
A: No, arrival and departure dates are up to you. We are very flexible.
What is a typical length of stay?
A: Many guests from the Colorado area stay two or three days. Those
flying in from the east and west coasts generally stay five to seven
days.
Do people stay longer?
A: Yes, many guests stay for two, three, and four weeks.
Is the food served vegetarian?
A: Shoshoni's delicious vegetarian food is prepared and served with
love. The Shoshoni cookbook is available in our bookstore.
I have special dietary needs. Are your chefs able to accommodate
me?
A: We are able to accommodate many special diets, such as vegan,
wheat-free, etc. Please let us know in advance.
How many guests can you accommodate?
A: Up to 25 guests will join us for a day, and with the inviting
family atmosphere you may meet many interesting people from all over
the world.

training for certification?

Do you have work-study programs?
A: Yes. There are two workstudy programs available for full- and
part-time participants. The part-time program is a minimum of three
