In
the hottest part of summer, I go to the mountains to (Shoshoni) retreat
center. I don't understand all that those who live there believe. I do
know that the retreat is a place of gentleness, caring, creativity, and
acceptance. When I arrived for the first time, I knew something was different
right away. Every person, every woman I met smiled at me. I was surprised
and realized that I was used to being greeted with suspicion by other women,
just because I am a woman and therefore a threat.

At the retreat center, no one viewed me as a threat. They viewed me
as a fellow searcher. I can't tell you the relief and the reassurance
that I experienced in this acceptance and absence of judgement.
Imagine a world of acceptance and optimism, in which all are seeking together,
respectful of the other's path and awaiting discovery of their own gift and that
of all those around them, with equal hopefulness. This is the world that nature
shows us to be possible.
